Can we feed the world organically? With some changes to the system, researchers say yes

(Natural News) It’s hard to find fault with consuming organic food, but those who are against it for whatever reason – like synthetic pesticide manufacturers – often claim it is not sustainable and would require too much land to pull off. Now, new research shows just how flawed that particular argument is. Indeed, a worldwide conversion to organic farming could be remarkably sustainable as long as some changes to current food production and consumption habits are made at the same time.

There are a lot of ways that industrial agriculture has increased the availability of food, but this has come at a significant cost to our environment. For example, it has led to an oversupply of reactive nitrogen that pollutes our water and soil, losses in biodiversity, and greenhouse gas emissions. This is in addition to the effects that pesticides and herbicides have on human and animal health.

Organic agriculture, on the other hand, eschews the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. With its focus on crop rotations, closed nutrient cycles, and soil fertility, it is certainly a better choice for the environment, but it tends to have lower yields, thereby requiring more land in order to produce the same amount of food.

Now, researchers from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, Alpen-Adria University in Austria, ETH Zurich in Switzerland and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture have written an open-access article in Nature Communications that shows just how organic agriculture could feasibly feed the world after all.

They say that accomplishing this worthwhile endeavor requires just a few complementary changes in our global food system. For example, reducing the amount of arable land that is used to grow animal feed and the drop in livestock and animal-based products that goes along with it could help quite a bit as people consume less meat – something that would also have positive effects on human health.Reducing food waste could also help make this transition a reality. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, as much as 40 percent of the food that is produced is wasted around the planet. Taking measures to try to stem this problem could go a long way toward a more efficient use of resources.

  1. THIS MAY OR MAY NOT BE POSSIBLE, BUT ONE THING IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST THAT SHALL BE ACCEPTED AND UNDERSTOOD, ESPECIALLY IN POVERTY STRICKEN NATIONS, IF YOU CAN NOT AFFORD CHILDREN, YOU SHOULD STOP ENGAGING IN SEXUAL ACTIVITY. IF THOSE IN POVERTY WOULD STOP THEIR SEXUAL ACTIVITY OR USE APPROPRIATE METHODS OF BIRTH CONTROL, GET THEIR OWN INDIVIDUAL HOMES IN SOUND, CONSTRUCTIVE ORDER; HENCEFORTH, THE GLOBAL ELITE WOULD NOT HAVE SO MUCH POWER. MUCH OF THE POVERTY NOW, HAS BEEN CARRIED DOWN FROM ONE GENERATION TO ANOTHER GENERATION, AND WHY WHEN SOMEONE WHO WORKED SO HARD AND LONG, HAVE TO PAY FOR ANOTHER MAN’S OR WOMAN’S SEXUAL ACTIVITY OF BRINGING A POVERTY CHILD INTO THE WORLD. ALSO, ESPECIALLY AND ESPECIALLY AMONG THE THE YOUNG PEOPLE, MARRIAGE SHOULD STRICTLY BE STRESSED, PREVENTIVE MEASURES AGAINST VIOLENCE AND DIVORCE, AND LESS ACCEPTANCE OF PEOPLE HAVING CHILDREN OUT OF WEDLOCK. A MARRIAGE LICENSE SAYS ONE THING TO A CHILD, IT IS A DECLARATION STATING THAT WE ARE FAMILY AND IT DOES DRIVE A MESSAGE. NO, NO, NO WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR EVERY POVERTY CHILD IN THE WORLD, THE WORLD NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF ITSELF, AND WE WHO WORK LONG, HARD, AND SUFFER DESERVE SOME PLEASURES IN LIFE. THE MORE POVERTY, THE MORE THE GLOBAL ELITE IS IN POWER, AND WITH THE ROBOTS REPLACING HUMANITY, WHO IS GOING TO LIVE TO EVEN EAT ANYTHING. IN PRIOR CENTURIES IT WAS EASY TO MANAGE A POPULATION, NOW THEY ARE WORKING FOR DEPOPULATION, IT WOULD NOT BE ALTOGETHER THE CASE IF PEOPLE USED THEIR BRAINS, AND STOP GIVING THEM POVERTY CHILDREN TO CONTROL, AND CREATE MORE SLAVES. SOME OF THESE PEOPLE WALK AROUND LIKE SKELETONS AND STILL HAVE SEX AND BRING ANOTHER SKELETON INTO THIS WORLD. THE MORE BABIES THEY HAVE, THEY MORE THEY EXPECT TO BE GIVEN. MAY BE WE CAN FEED THE WORLD, THEN MAY BE NOT.

    1. Thanks futuret. I do hear what you’re saying & yes, personal responsibility, but me being me, I like to see the very big picture & consider that the rape & pillage by the west of those lands where people starve is the major reason they do starve. They survived adequately without our monetized set up, it is that that has ruined them IMO anyway. Susan George explains quite well how they starve, (How the Other Half Dies). That and two other reads on our resources page for me explains it all. (Walter Rodney & Kevin Cahill’s expose). Also Michael Parenti’s little vid explains it well, Against Empire. Thing is our mainstream media has fed us a whole different line, these folk are lazy or breed too much. But the root of the prob is far deeper than their simplistic solutions they have given us for years n years. These folk are also being fed the GM lie & many commit suicide because it isn’t working of course. Very sad. That’s my 2c worth on it anyway 🙂

  2. ONE WAY TO OVERCOME THE GLOBAL ELITE IS TO FOLLOW THE TEN COMMANDMENTS, AND TO NOT CONFORM TO THE WAYS THEY EXPECT US TO. RACES ARE IN COMPETITION TO OUT BREED OTHER RACES, EVEN WHEN IN POVERTY, WHICH SHALL ACCOMPLISH NOTHING, ONLY COMMON SENSE WILL. WHEN YOU CAN NOT FEED THE NUMBER IN YOUR HOUSEHOLDS, WHERE EVER ON THIS PLANET, OR VILLAGES IT IS TIME TO PLUG UP SOME VAGINAL SPACES AND TIE UP SOME PENISES.

  3. Thanks Pam, copied to Uncensored: I like to see positive solutions amidst all the grumblings about GM.
