DoC’s been doubling down on their Sth. Is. 1080 poisoning operations-Jacinda’s magic money tree?

JACINDA’S MAGIC MONEY TREE – LIST OF 1080 OPERATIONS BELOW

By Carol Sawyer

Never have I seen so many winter aerial 1080 operations as now!

They barely gave themselves a breathing space.

The Dept of Conservation aerially 1080-poisoned 61,000 hectares of the Waitutu Forest and the Princess Mountains, Fiordland, March 11-12, 2020, two weeks before lockdown.

Then, as soon as we went into Level 2, they poisoned the Eglinton Valley, Fiordland. (Started on 19 May; completed on May 25, 2020).

1) Eglinton Valley, Fiordland, 7,842 hectares (last poisoned September, 2019; poisoned again May, 2020)

2) Waikaia Forest, Northern Southland, 7,000 hectares (fourth poisoning in 5.5 years, scheduled June, 2020)

3) Wet Jacket Peninsula, Dusky Sound, Fiordland, 40,000 hectares (never before poisoned)

4) Nelson Lakes National Park, Lake Rotoiti, Mt Robert and the headwaters of Lake Rotoroa, 34,000 hectares (notified by VCS Marlborough, July 1 to August 31, but not yet poisoned)

5) Mt Te Kinga forests, Lake Brunner, West Coast, 3,700 hectares, (notified, RNZ news item 29 May, but not yet poisoned)

6) Punakaiki, West Coast, 43,000 hectares (notified by VCS Greymouth, but not yet poisoned)

7) Buller South, West Coast ( Paparoa Range as well as foothills and Pakihi terraces between the Buller River and Four Mile Road south of Charleston), 18,500 hectares (notified, OSPRI, July 2020)

8) Radiant Range and Mokihinui, West Coast, 72,460 hectares ( notified, OSPRI, July 2020)

TOTAL HECTARES (including Waitutu) = 390,000 hectares and 780 tonnes of 1080 poison baits.

How could I have been so wrong?! I seriously thought a pandemic and its ensuing economic chaos would put an end to aerial 1080 poison. I thought the government might have a last blast but this is something else. Jacinda’s Labour Government has turned 1080 poisoning and trapping into a make-work scheme. The only income this scheme makes is from the TAXPAYER!!!

I think the only thing that will end aerial 1080 poison and this mad desire to kill everything introduced into our forests will be nuclear war.

The great Southland flax massacre

Photo: John Hawkins Stuff

Thanks to a reader this came to my attention. It had slipped under my radar. I’ve followed the spraying carry on that all of our councils do, fixated on tidy roadsides they spray everything to the hilt, hence the yellow ditches all along the way when you travel. I think they look untidier than long grass quite frankly but spray they must it seems. Small wonder most of our populations now test positive for glyphosate in their bloodstreams. What was sprayed in Southland here in the article was metsulfuron methyl.  Spraying everything with chemical poisonous herbicides is standard practice in NZ even though there are non toxic alternatives. You can read up on glyphosate on our Glyphosate pages. The properties of the chemical used in Southland is referred to in the article. To read more PANANZ is a good site.

Anyway it appears in Southland the roadside harakeke (flax) bushes got sprayed, now they’re a ‘nice’ yellow colour instead of green. Southlanders got up in arms and good on them. Have a read about the Southland massacre:

Southlanders protest the great flax massacre

stuff.co.nz
31 Oct 2017

It’s been described as the great flax massacre, and dozens of Southlanders have packed into the Orepuki Tavern to protest against it.

Members of the public filled the tavern for a public meeting on Tuesday, opposed to the long stretches of the Southern Scenic Route which are now lined with browning dead flax bushes.

Attendees expressed concerns about the aesthetic impact on the Southern Scenic Route and tourism, the possibility of the herbicidal spray entering the public water supply, and dangers to animal life and biodiversity.

Resident Louise O’Callaghan said she understood the need to keep drainage channels clear but was concerned about the amount of chemicals being used to kill flax, after driving past the spraying vehicle in April.

“I was flabbergasted, my friend and I stopped, did a U-turn and drove back,” she said.

“The time spent on one flax bush was just incredible, as was the volume of spray.”

She was also worried about chemicals escaping into the water supply, saying manufacturers of herbicidal treatments with metsulfuron methyl warn that it is very toxic to aquatic organisms and to soil.

Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker says NZ Transport Agency to act on whacked flax

stuff.co.nz
13 Nov 2017

Southern scenic route motorists will once again be able to enjoy the green, green grass of home after the NZ Transport Agency agreed to clean up the aftermath of the great flax massacre.

Clutha-Southland MP Hamish Walker said he had received confirmation that the transport agency would be removing dead flax between Riverton and Clifden.

He was pleased with the decision, saying “It’s been an emotive issue in the community, so this is a great result”.

“I’m thrilled the NZTA has come to the party and agreed to remove the majority of dead flax in their area of responsibility.”

Walker was also pleased the agency would work with local iwi to protect flax on the Southern Scenic Route, saying “The Southern Scenic Route is our shopfront window for tourists”.

“Flax is not a weed, it’s an important part of the cultural and economic history of our country.”

Flax bushes past the Clifden suspension bridge were the responsibility of the Southland District Council.

The Westland DC manager who awarded a cake decorator’s firm a $7 million contract to build a sewage plant … watch your Councils Kiwis!

Not new news, nevertheless some people will not have heard about it. The Council corruption’s stacking up so fast it takes a bit of keeping up with.

The said company had “no track record in waste management ” … was not a registered company at the time it won the tender” … and “it registered with the Companies Office several months after securing the Franz Josef job”. Great stuff. So Westland DC wants a cake expert in charge of sewage? Or rather, is it a case of contracts for the mates?

Do you still trust your Local Government?

It bears repeating, NZ is NOT clean and green as often touted, and neither is it honest. That has been well documented here in previous posts.

I’ve added the subsequent developments on this issue as this was initially reported on March 15 this year. “Oops, it’s been put on hold guys … we got found out”.

And in fact the subsequent news items tell you it was a $10 million contract and in fact there were TWO. Now under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office we await the outcome. I’m not holding my breath in that we’re already considered corrupt under the latter’s watch so what are our chances for transparency this time? Makes for intriguing reading indeed.

Beneath that pristine white icing lies an intriguing tale about sewage

A new business, run by a cake decorator, which had no track record in waste management won a Westland District Council project to build a $7 million sewage plant in Franz Josef, a Stuff investigation has found.

Techno Economic Services, which is based in South Auckland, won the council project in the middle of last year, despite never having provided waste management or construction services before. The company was not a registered company at the time it won the tender. It registered with the Companies Office several months after securing the Franz Josef job.

Neha Bubna, the sole director and shareholder of the company, runs a cake shop in South Auckland, specialising in birthday and special occasion cakes. She is a recent migrant from India.

Working group quiet on swede test results … NZ

From Radio NZ News:

Test results have revealed that herbicide-tolerant swedes planted as stock feed have unnaturally high levels of toxins that cause liver damage in livestock.

NZ, where Glyphosate is an integral part of farming

“However, the working group investigating the deaths of 400 cows and sheep last winter in Southland is not commenting.

The test results have raised questions as to why farmers have been allowed to plant the crop again this season.

Documents obtained by Radio New Zealand show the Southland Swedes Working Group was told in October there was a problem with the herbicide-tolerant swedes….”
