“Adversarial politics is letting us down in NZ” … some thoughts on a new form of governance (Mayor of Horowhenua DC)

NOTE: when this outgoing Mayor (his term ends Friday 18th Oct) shared his plans presented here with fellow Mayors at an LG conference media were keen to report on it however when it came to the crunch they all pulled. Mainstream is basically the long arm of the new corporate regime that is currently taking over all your community owned assets your forefathers acquired, using public private partnerships. This council announced plans to and is doing just that. As Joan Veon has told us, with those partnerships the parties with the most money are in control. Currently our council CEs are in control of what people still think are democratic. They are not. They meet for these asset ‘sales’ behind closed doors. Public excluded. “Effective growth is a partnership between council, central government and private enterprise….away from the unsettling glare of public commentary…” explains one HDC councilor regarding all of the public excluded meetings by which the assets are being sold. So here we have an ex Mayor who has devoted his term to showing that this modus operandi is simply in his opinion and the opinion of much of the NZ public just not right. Speaking truth however is not welcomed in a society that is proceeding under a corporate model where profits are more important than people. And so for now property development is the main vehicle for that and so councils are not what they once were. Corporations & companies are not democracies.

For further info see our Local Government Watch Horowhenua page. That has not been updated of late unfortunately, there is much more than is documented there. For more recent & all info see HDC in ‘categories. See also Cr Ross Campbell’s page on FB, the Mayor’s page (Michael Feyen) and Veronica Harrod’s also. Veronica is an investigative journalist who has researched quite extensively the activities of this Council.

Finally, check out the Rodney Council & the Mangawhai/Kaipara pages at the LG Govt watch section to see what has happened to other people who challenge the new system exposing corruption. It is not pretty. And so this Monday morning (14/10/19) on the heels of the local body election this particular Mayor when he went in to work to clear out his office having congratulated the new incoming Mayor, was greeted coolly by the exit committee, the CE and one of his colleagues. Not surprising given the stonewalling he has received for his entire term. His work, papers and other info had already been gone through, uninvited, packed into boxes and left outside his door. He said he was as good as told to piss off. This is the caliber of your local governance people.  EWR.

Police are preparing to open a new investigation into the Pike River explosion – and are open to laying criminal charges.

Newshub has learned the country’s highest-ranking investigator, Assistant Commissioner Richard Chambers, was in Greymouth last week.

In addition, Police Commissioner Mike Bush has secretly met with families for the first time since NZ Police closed the case in 2013.

The new investigation is reliant on access being gained to the mine’s access tunnel or drift.

Asst Cmmr Chambers, who is responsible for investigations, and Det Supt Peter Read attended the meeting with the Pike River Recovery Agency at the New Zealand Mines Rescue at Rapahoe, just outside Greymouth last week.

The pair with Pike River families representatives Bernie Monk and Anna Osborne.

Asst Cmmr Chambers also visited the Pike River Memorial, but not the mine itself.

“Police would have a dual role should re-entry to the drift be achieved,” a statement issued to Newshub read.

FDA takes aim at homeopathic remedies: homeopathic products now illegal? (Dr Mercola)

Story at-a-glance

  • In a draft guidance document released by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the agency takes aim at homeopathic remedies
  • In a reversal of a long-standing decision to treat homeopathic remedies differently from other drugs, the FDA has now labeled virtually all of these products as “new drugs” that are “subject to FDA enforcement action at any time”
  • Homeopathic products are now a close to $3 billion industry and such remedies have been shown effective for a variety of ailments, from the flu and allergies to vitiligo

By Dr. Mercola

About 5 million U.S. adults and 1 million U.S. children use homeopathy every year, and the remedies are known to be “generally safe and unlikely to cause severe adverse reactions,” according to the U.S. National Institutes of Health’s National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health.1 Yet, if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continues on its latest crusade, this natural health modality may soon be much harder to come by.

In a draft guidance document released in December 2017, the FDA takes aim at homeopathic remedies, or as they put it, “drug products labeled as homeopathic.”2,3 In a reversal of a long-standing decision to treat homeopathic remedies differently from other drugs, the FDA has now labeled virtually all of these products as “new drugs” that are “subject to FDA enforcement action at any time.”

FDA Declares Homeopathic Drugs Illegal, Plans to Ramp up Enforcement Actions

While deaths from drugs like opioids are now a public health crisis, homeopathy has maintained a much lower, and presumably safer, profile. Yet, the FDA is using its limited resources to target the latter, citing a need to “protect consumers who choose to use homeopathic products.” Why now? The FDA also cited a “large uptick in products labeled as homeopathic that are being marketed for a wide array of diseases and conditions,” to the extent that homeopathic products are now a close to $3 billion industry.4

Perhaps that’s $3 billion too much for Big Pharma, FDA’s cozy partner in crime. “[I]n one fell swoop, the FDA has declared that virtually every single homeopathic drug on the market is being sold illegally,” the Alliance for Natural Health USA (ANH USA) wrote5 — and it’s not an exaggeration. In essence, the FDA’s guidance reads:6

  1. Any homeopathic drug that has not been considered “generally recognized as safe and effective” (GRAS/E) is considered a new drug
  2. FDA has not determined that any homeopathic drugs are GRAS/E
  3. A new drug cannot be marketed unless it goes through the FDA’s approval process
  4. No homeopathic drugs have gone through FDA approval nor can any producer afford to take them through the approval process
