Singer Song-writer releases anti-1080 song “Poison Rain”

‘Poison Rain’ calls for an end to 1080 poison and other rodenticides in New Zealand, poison that is banned in many countries. The song asks for a better solution to be found, one that does not involve tons of poison continually tipped on New Zealand’s native forests.

‘Poison Rain’ calls for an end to 1080 poison and other rodenticides in New Zealand, poison that is banned in many countries. The song asks for a better solution to be found, one that does not involve tons of poison continually tipped on New Zealand’s native forests.

The song now has its own Facebok page where you can see the music video: https://www.facebook.com/stopthedropnz/videos/287934298401454/

To learn more about eh issue of 1080, one option is to watch the film Poisoning Paradisehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQRuOj96CRs

Aly Cook became intent on looking into 1080 poison after a conversation she had with friends whofeatured on a TV Wild Video. New Zealand farmers were interviewed in the video who had all suffered stock losses from 1080 poison drops. These farmers had been instructed by various government departments to put their compensation payouts down to ‘track maintenance’ or ‘stock food’, after their animals had tested positive for 1080 poisoning. Other farmers were asked to sign confidentiality clauses. watch the video here

This conversation lead Aly to look more into safe ways to reduce the number of stoats, rats and possums in the NZ bush. If there was nothing to hide, the farmers would not have been instructed to lie on an invoice. The more Aly looked into it, the more oxymorons she found. DOC claims 1080 did not kill invertebrates… yet 1080 was developed as an insecticide.

Aly says … “There are lies everywhere covering up, for example, the recent ‘so called’ botulism case in which a family who had consumed wild pork were hospitalised due to life-threatening illness.

(Here is the interview with the actual family and excerpts from their medical notes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6i4pZ5RYI4&t=570s)

The hunter’s dog died the day the wild pork was collected . After eating the pork it made the family so violently ill that they were thrashing around and the hospital staff had to strap them into their beds for days”.

The family tested negative for botulism yet they were not tested for 1080 poisoning until 18 days later following a lawyer being engaged by the family. I urge kiwis to watch this documentary and also think about what this is doing to our clean and green image. We have to find a better solution to pest control than this”.

Thousands of bees are dying in Murchison. No-one knows why

This is so tragic. We’ve just seen bees dying in the Coromandel. Now Murchison. There have been many die offs of other creatures/insects/marine life for some time now. Small wonder with the state of our planet now. It is so highly polluted it is anybody’s guess what has caused each of them. EnvirowatchRangitikei

From Stuff.co.nz

Hundreds of thousands of bees are dying in Murchison, near Nelson, and beekeepers are at a loss to save them.

Veteran beekeeper Ricki Leahy said he first noticed dead bees in front of his hives in the Mangles Valley last Friday.

Leahy, who is an ApiNZ board member, produces Tutaki Honey through his business Trees and Bees. He said the 40 hives used for queen rearing around his home had been affected, as well as another 186 hives located half a kilometre down the road.

Leahy estimated the number of dead bees to be in the hundreds of thousands.

“We had a look at them again this morning to see if we could rescue any and it is just hopeless, there are so many dead bees.”

The hives were fine when Leahy checked them on Thursday, but bees had continued to die since Friday.

“What bees are left are looking very unstable on their feet, they have got the jitters and there is actually nothing we can really do to help the situation. There is nothing we can do. ”

In his 40 years beekeeping, Leahy said he hadn’t experienced a loss of hives on such a scale and that the impact was “absolutely devastating”.

1080 threat suspects shocked to discover their house was bugged

From the Nelson Mail

A Golden Bay couple suing police for being wrongly targeted in a 1080 blackmail investigation have been shocked to discover their home was bugged.

Rolf and Ute Kleine, who run teahouse and bakery Takaka Infusion, obtained police documents through their lawyer in November that reveal their house was bugged with a surveillance device 20 days prior to a police search of their home in 2015.

The Kleines have lodged a statement of claim with the Nelson High Court and are suing police next year.

They say both searches and their warrant applications were unlawful and illegal, and they had been inaccurately profiled by police seeking those responsible for a threat to Fonterra to put 1080 pesticide into baby milk formula.

In one of the police documents the couple obtained, Senior Sergeant Aaron Pascoe wrote that “very little” conversation could be picked up through the surveillance device planted in their home.

“I believe that the lack of evidence to date from the Surveillance Device warrant is either due to the poor quality…, or an indication that Rolf Kleine has acted alone (so he has not spoken to his wife about what he has done), or both,” he wrote.

Rolf Kleine said the whole thing “keeps getting worse and worse”.

“Police didn’t find anything, not even a little bit against us, and they just kept going and kept going with no evidence at all,” he said.

Ute Kleine said the couple used to joke that police might have bugged their home, but when it was revealed they really had, they were left reeling again.

“It’s different if it’s your phone than if it’s really your private room, and they can listen to everything you say and do,” she said.

“When I am at home, sometimes I have this feeling, ‘is there somebody listening to me?’ It’s not a good feeling at all. Other times I wonder how many times did they actually enter our house; it must have been at least three times.”

In 1984 the entire western weka population on NZ’s Tawhitinui Island was exterminated in a brodifacoum poison drop (important info here for hunters & fishermen)

Note:  Brodifacoum is a serious rat poison, an anti-coagulant which kills the things that eat it over a long period of time. It has secondary by-kill on animals / things that eat things that have been killed by it.  Instead of slathering poison everywhere it’s time surely that NZ considered eco friendly extermination of pests, given our clean glean classification is long gone. So also is our edible wild food. So not only were all the wetas exterminated at Tawhitinui Island, , but the following also:

  • Nearly 60% of the Tawharanui Regional Park dotterel population died through eating brodifacoum baits and poisoned sand-hoppers (2004)
  • Brodifacoum residues continued to be found in wildlife more than 24 months after the brodifacoum poison drop in and around the Rotoiti Nature Recovery Project in Nelson (2005)
  • The Rangitoto and Motutapu Island eradication by-kill included dolphins, penguins, fish, numerous dogs and birds
  • Vast numbers of dead mussels washed up on Waiheke Island up to five months after the poison drop
  • Hundreds of dead birds also washed up on Coromandel Peninsula beaches in the months following (2009)
  • More than 10,000 seagulls were killed in Shakespear Regional Park (2011)

Huge by-kill of brodifacoum poison

I don’t live in Nelson so dropping 26.5 tonnes of brodifacoum poison into the Brook Waimarama Sanctuary won’t affect me directly, but I care a lot about New Zealand wildlife. I’m the Waikato Regional Councillor for Taupo-Rotorua, and the current Chair of the Environmental and Services Performance Committee.

ACRE, a group that advises Waikato Regional Council, asked councillors to look into our use of brodifacoum during our last Long Term Plan. They were concerned about the bio-accumulation and persistence of brodifacoum in wildlife, and the implications for our food chain. Our EPC Chair at the time, Clyde Graf, agreed to a review.

We invited Penny Fisher, a scientist at Landcare Research to give us readings about brodifacoum and other second-generation anticoagulant rodenticide residues in wildlife. She did a teleconference with our committee; We gathered information from other councils and government agencies and we looked at what’s happening overseas.

A lot of the New Zealand data about brodifacoum by-kill concerned me:

The entire western weka population was exterminated in a brodifacoum drop on Tawhitinui Island (1984); Nearly 60% of the Tawharanui Regional Park dotterel population died through eating brodifacoum baits and poisoned sand-hoppers (2004); Brodifacoum residues continued to be found in wildlife more than 24 months after the brodifacoum poison drop in and around the Rotoiti Nature Recovery Project in Nelson (2005); The Rangitoto and Motutapu Island eradication by-kill included dolphins, penguins, fish, numerous dogs and birds. Vast numbers of dead mussels washed up on Waiheke Island up to five months after the poison drop. Hundreds of dead birds also washed up on Coromandel Peninsula beaches in the months following (2009); More than 10,000 seagulls were killed in Shakespear Regional Park (2011);

Blue cod, mussels, limpets and birds had brodifacoum residues in them after the Ulva Island drop, prompting restrictions on harvesting. Dead robin nestlings on the island were found to have brodifacoum residues, indicating that poisoned invertebrates had been fed to the young birds. Nearly 90% of the weka population was also killed (2011); Brodifacoum and other anticoagulant residues were found in freshwater fish, eels and sediment in Southland (2012); After Great Mercury Island was poisoned, 16 dead seals and a multitude of birds and fish washed up dead on Coromandel beaches (2014); A Landcare Research study of road-killed harrier hawks revealed 78% of those tested had at least one anticoagulant rodenticide in them. Some had as many as four different types. Brodifacoum was common.

It’s dangerous stuff, no doubt.

I asked Auckland Council for the results of their monitoring of feral pigs on islands in the Hauraki Gulf. The reply stated that 13 out of 14 pigs tested positive for brodifacoum residues. Brodifacoum has now been confirmed in fish, shellfish, pigs, bats, deer, eels and birds across New Zealand, which is a concern for those who hunt and fish. There’s also concern for those who commercially harvest wildlife. MPI notified a restricted procurement area for feral pigs in Marlborough due to high levels of brodifacoum residues in pig livers in 2004.

Why would we use brodifacoum when our own scientists have expressed concern about residues persisting in the environment?

Penny Fisher said in 2013 in her Overview/Summary – Environmental Residues of Anticoagulants Used for Pest Control, 10 June 2013.

“There is increasing evidence that uses of anticoagulants for both household rodent control and field pest management are resulting in widespread contamination of both terrestrial and aquatic wildlife. The latter is presumably through carcasses of poisoned animals entering waterways ….”

According to MPI, brodifacoum is the most inhumane toxin we’ve got, causing pain and suffering for days to weeks before an animal succumbs to internal haemorrhaging. Apart from the lethal effects, brodifacoum also causes sub-lethal reproductive and developmental damage. Would you choose to use brodifacoum if you knew it was also going to harm and kill the native species you’re trying to protect?

This Weekend Saw a Huge Turnout NZ Wide of People Protesting Against the Govt’s Extensive Use of 1080 – Go Kiwis! (updated photos)

For over 15 years the New Zealand Government has been systematically dropping massive amounts of food, laced with a cruel and universally toxic poison into its forest ecosystems. Enough poison every year to kill the entire population of NZ four times over. No other country is doing, or ever has done, anything remotely similar on such a scale.

1080 is an alias for Monofluoroacetate, a chemical. Monofluoroacetate was originally developed and marketed as an insecticide. READ MORE

This weekend peaceful protesters NZ wide took to the streets to let the Government know they are not impressed with this slathering of our paradise with toxic poison. They want it to STOP.

Note: If you have any instances of 1080 poisoning of livestock or of being required to cover up details, contact me at the contact page and I will direct you to a person who is considering taking legal action. Or simply go to 1080 Eyewitness on FB for the post. You would need to join.

The disturbingly aggressive roll out of Smart aka Advanced Meters – while children starve and the elderly freeze in rural Aotearoa (NZ)

Copy of 12112517_1015228948571453_8673820843448801831_n
A sign posted in Taumaranui NZ regarding the unsolicited installation of a Smart Meter

Here is a sign posted by a Taumaranui resident who had their locked meter box broken into to install a Smart Meter (aka Advanced Meter). As you can see the response they said they got from the lines people when following this up was equally as telling… “we own you people”!

While it appears little known that there are options for having these meters removed and replaced, it also seems that Taumaranui has only one supplier. This makes things more difficult in terms of no bargaining power. The use of the term ‘jack boot’ is therefore not that extreme given the whole scenario and the way these folks have been treated. It is all symptomatic of the direction our country is headed with an ex-banker for a Prime Minister who clearly places profits and corporate interests above the interests of his constituents.

What is especially disturbing about this event (and it’s not an isolated incident, I’ve heard myself of installations happening while folk were not home) is that in the comments and discussion around this, many others have been similarly treated. The repeated tale of outrageous hikes in charges, one for instance from $100 to $150 approx. plus the Nelson woman last year who received a bill for $800 for her two bedroom house! And this is something I’ve both read about & heard, time and time again. We are fed the line that the meters are more accurate and customers have been undercharged prior to Smart Meter installation. Not to the tune of a $1000 hike? Surely? …  yet this is what I’ve heard more than once. A difference of $20 is feasible but not $600 or more. See here a proposed explanation for these hikes by a retired electrical engineer.

“…over 250 people have commented with some saying they had similar experiences with unexpectedly large power bills and problems after the installation of smart meters.”  Stuff.co.nz

Disturbing also is the detail about the elderly turning off their hot water in order to buy food or not turning on any heating because they can’t pay. Again I know of this happening in my district (the Rangitikei) where an elderly person is being charged $150 and upwards in a tiny flat with few if any appliances operating. She has switched off the hot water, has no heater and goes to bed early to keep warm. And finally, the above sign and the comments corroborate that folk are being pressured to leave the district because of the costs. ‘The town is dying’ says the sign.

Now,on that topic, we have been led to believe for years that towns are dying because people somehow mysteriously allowed it. They all moved away. We even had a prominent economist telling us recently that they were zombie towns and pretty much had to go. Well, people left because of decisions made by our respective governments to close down amenities and resources like the hospitals, pharmacies and banking. I know … I remember it happening! It was about the time those governments had borrowed large sums of money and gotten a once prosperous and fully employed nation into un-repayable debt, followed by Rogernomics and belt tightening for the poorer folks, not the wealthy mind. And the former being blamed for the debt while corporations enjoy huge tax breaks.  And now this from the power companies and we were told privatizing them would lower prices. Competition, the market and all that. We’re still waiting nearly three decades on. On that note, check out our (UN)  Agenda 21/2030 pages for why all this is happening. Particularly Agenda 21/2030 in NZ. Watch the video there by former Australian politician Anne Bressington.

As this sign very perceptively outlines folk, we are being ripped off and our southern clean, green paradise is fast morphing into a fascist regime. Think, TPPA and all that has entailed in terms of keeping us out of the loop then claiming to seek our feedback/opinion/input.  Their tactics provide the illusion of having sought our opinion … it is nothing more folks, in case you hadn’t already noticed. See how they provide you with forms containing multi choice options none of which you wanted to choose anyway? Like the recently proposed flag debacle that has cost the country $28 million. Shame.

Returning now to the Smart Meters themselves, be aware, they are NOT compulsory. If you already have one, there are options about its removal and replacement. (If you don’t have one yet, inform your powerco you do not consent to one … in writing … in advance). For further information on that Kiwis, visit stopsmartmeters.org.nz/ and note they have a page there explaining how to get rid of a Smart Meter. The meters are also known here as Advanced Meters. (Folks from other countries, there are similar sites in your countries, just google.)

You should also be aware that health professionals have warned about the health risks these meters carry. Predictably the authorities deny this, however the stopsmartmeters website has already logged before and after testimonies from Kiwis who had their Smart Meters removed. See also the links here for further information on that, with a video trailer featuring a health professional explaining the effects from long term exposure to a Smart Meter. See also in this video what the meters when in proximity do to your blood.  Above all, educate yourself further by watching the award winning doco Take Back Your Power by Josh Del Sol at his website. It is accessible for a very small charge. Or consider holding a viewing in your town (contact stopsmartmeters for details). Further info on Smart Meters is also available on our Smart Meter pages. Spread the word and resist this move.

Tens of thousands of people turn out to protest against the TPPA

With failed talks in Hawaii recently with regards to the free trade agreement, Kiwis turned out en masse today in many parts of the country to protest the whole deal that has thus far been carried out in secret. Ostensibly a free trade deal, it is a doorway that will give corporations open slather to sue us if we threaten their profit making margins … something they are already doing in other countries. Educate yourself on this issue … it is important. Here are links to various news reports throughout the country.

“The thing about this crowd is there’s children, there’s babies, there’s Maori there’s people from India, there’s trade unionists, there’s health professional, politicians, there’s professors, singers. It’s amazing. All of New Zealand is represented here. There’s no group you could say didn’t turn up today.”  NZ Herald

“Documentary filmmaker Bryan Bruce sent a clear message to Tim Groser and the National Party today on the grounds of Parliament: ‘If they sign this deal they will be gone in the next election. We will not forget and we will not forgive them… ‘ ”   SOURCE

In Auckland thousands of protesters turned out in the rain to march from Aotea Square down Queen Street.
Further south in Christchurch thousands of people turned out in the wet at Hagley Park to march up Riccarton Road, medical students, teachers and marketing executives among the crowd.
In Otago a large group of protesters marched through Dunedin’s CBD.
Protests today end an action week by those opposed to the proposed deal.
Rallies were also planned in Wellington, Kataia, Hokianga, Whangarei, Hamilton, Colville, Tauranga, Whakatane, Napier, New Plymouth, Featherston, Nelson, Timaru, Little River and Invercargill.
In Nelson, some of the protesters formed a choir to sing their message…”
