Experts say this alarming spike is being partially driven by women, who often work in industries most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
TOKYO — Eriko Kobayashi has tried to kill herself four times.
The first time, she was just 22 years old with a full-time job in publishing that didn’t pay enough to cover her rent and grocery bills in Tokyo. “I was really poor,” said Kobayashi, who spent three days unconscious in hospital after the incident.
Now 43, Kobayashi has written books on her mental health struggles and has a steady job at an NGO. But the coronavirus is bringing back the stress she used to feel.
“My salary was cut, and I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel,” she said. “I constantly feel a sense of crisis that I might fall back into poverty.”
Experts have warned that the pandemic could lead to a mental health crisis. Mass unemployment, social isolation, and anxiety are taking their toll on people globally.
We never of course hear about these cases, or the suicides. They are quietly & conveniently swept under the proverbial rug by those who are sticking with the narrative. EWR
Rita Thomas was a victim of COVID-19, but she never had the disease.
The vivacious and outgoing 95-year-old, who lived independently until last year and celebrated her most recent birthday in February with friends at a Pasco County diner, willed herself to die two weeks ago because she could no longer handle the pandemic-imposed isolation.
“She said to me: ‘Linda. I’ve had a good life. I am ready to die. I don’t want to live this way anymore. I stopped eating,’ ’’ her daughter Linda Gardnersaid, recalling the conversation she had with her mother in August. Weeks later, her mother was hospitalized for complications from malnutrition.

A person who was clearly stressed from the sudden ordeal of leaving the country to bury a deceased relative, then returning to a situation he describes as like a prison camp, expressed what he noted as inconsistencies in the rules. From hearing the description of this experience clearly some staff were less than helpful regarding the state of this person’s mental health however going by other people’s experiences this is not unusual. Below is a description of the day to day interaction with the authorities and staff at the quarantine facility supplied through a friend of the detainee. EWR
Timeline in Managed Isolation Experience
My friend had to go to the Netherlands due to his fathers sudden passing. He was the only one in the family that could go and take care of everything. Funeral, house, everything. So he did, and all by himself. His travel wasn’t for ‘fun’, but necessary.
He returned to New Zealand on Wednesday the 12th of August, Central European Time, Amsterdam. (All the dates and times are Central European Time, Amsterdam. Due to me living in the Netherlands). That was the plan, however he could not fly back through the US. The transit wasn’t allowed coming from the Netherlands. Although he did have his ticket pre-booked.
He had to buy a new ticket and fly via Zurich and Hong Kong which ended up to be a 39 hour trip, with all the waiting between flights as well.
August 14th, he arrived at the Auckland Airport. There was a line for supposedly a health check. The only thing that really got checked was his temperature using an infrared scanner. No information whatsoever had been provided. People were put on a bus and transported somewhere. At that moment, it was not clear where they would go. Nor what would happen. Turned out that he was moved to an isolation facility in South Auckland. He was assigned to a room and received an information package.
He also submitted an exemption request, to be allowed to do his isolation at home. The reason he applied is because he is going through a grieving process. After being in the Netherlands to bury his father, flying half way across the world, and then being ‘locked up’ does not have a positive effect on his grieving. And could cause major psychological issues.
August 15th, he got agitated and was rude to the staff. Not overly rude, or aggressive. But after what he had been through, not very patient. He yelled at them and got a warning for his behaviour. Due to this ‘incident’ the police, who are on site 24/7 repeatedly came to his door, wanting to talk. He refused. He told them he was very tired. He went outside into the parking area and at a safe distance (at least 3 meters) lay in the sun and put his mask over his eyes, just to relax a bit. Security came and told him that he had to wear the mask. He refused, because he wasn’t harming anyone at that moment.
The police officer came to his room again, and told him that he had been warned 2 times now, and the 3rd time would mean that he would be arrested. He told him to go away, he is tired and would speak to them the next day.
August 16th, He went outside again to have a coffee in the sun. Again, very safe distance (at least 3 meters) and the police came and told him to put the mask on. He refused. He was drinking and did not see the point in wearing the mask, when he wasn’t a threat to anyone else.
My friend decided to stay in his room after this ‘incident’.
When speaking to the nurse that day, he asked about his exemption application. She told him she would make sure to ‘fast track’ it. He asked when he would be tested because it was day 3. The information package stated that people would be tested ‘around’ day 3 and day 12. They told him, probably today, or tomorrow.
August 17th, He would be taken for a walk. Supposedly in a park. (There is a feed on Twitter that visualises the 14 days in a more then friendly manner) however, the walk in the park turned out to be a walk of 200 meters to the next carpark, where they where allowed to walk about for a bit.
And the nurses told him he would be tested today, or the day after. When walking downstairs to go and have his walk in the ‘park’ he was addressed quite aggressively by the staff. He supposedly was wearing his mask upside down, or inside out… he told the staff member that he felt like they were picking on him and the staff threatened him that he would not be allowed to go to the park. My friend decided to go back to his room. The staff kept on threatening him, and told him he could be removed from this facility and taken elsewhere, because he had already had 2 warnings (as in being arrested and detained).
Looking at the information package, and the instructions. He would not have been allowed to touch the mask in any way when out of his room…
Meanwhile, he took some pictures of staff not wearing masks in the carpark.
August 18th, conversation with the nurse. He will be tested later that day. He went downstairs to level 2 to get tested and was confronted with military staff being on that floor as well. Very intimidating. At that moment, there is security staff, police officers and the military.
He was told that the test results would take up to 72 hours. He asked about his exemption application. And was told that they had not yet heard back on this.
My friend’s girlfriend came to the facility to drop off some groceries. But initially was told to go back home. She did not have a receipt. She did not accept that and talked to the management. And after some time, they did accept the groceries.
August 19th, no news on the exemption application. Other than them receiving it (by this time I had been posting lots on Twitter, telling people about the ‘real’ isolation) and my friend got told that there would be huge fines for taking pictures and posting them on social media.
August 20th, nothing shocking.
August 21st, my friend asked the nurse about the exemption application again. She then called MIQ. The reply was that they had been swamped, and did not know when they would be able to get back to him.
August 22nd no results on his test yet. The nurses told him that this would probably mean that it is negative. However the information package states that you get a phone call or a text message with the results. My friend also asked about his exemption application. But they hadn’t heard back.
August 23rd, asked again on the exemption application. Nothing. And no test results.
August 24th, my friend talked to one of the nurses, the kind one. Asked about the test result. Nurse told him it was negative.
Here in the Netherlands it is still August 24th. And I am hoping to hear from my friend again by tonight. However, writing this timeline, breaks my heart again. It seems, and I am not a fan of conspiracy theories, that every time that I have tried to get out some information on reality in New Zealand, the media come up with a plausible explanation as to the failure of the NZ government.
He is a very dear friend. And it is wrong what they are doing.
Post Script 20/8/20 – according to Chris Hipkins, no children will be taken from their homes by Oranga Tamariki if they test positive. That has been rumoured apparently. Nevertheless in the video in this post below, Ashley Bloomfield does say children can be separated from the family within the facility, still traumatizing if you have a very young child. Very. How is separation into another room with strangers in PPE gear, masks and so on, no visits allowed, going to help a little child recover? He would need his mother. It is not surprizing rumours are circulating. We know that the WHO rep Michael Ryan said quite plainly on television that members could be removed and put into quarantine. Listen to Adern (at 7 mins 38 secs) this link as she kind of says families will be managed carefully … she does not outright say, no they won’t be separated though. Just as Bloomfield wouldn’t.
Since Adern switched the rules with no consultation note, it appears that the military in NZ are allowed to enter homes with no warrant and forcibly remove your children in the interests of health should it be deemed necessary.
This was first uttered back in the first global lockdown by Michael Ryan speaking from WHO (now ‘fact checked’ as untrue). I recall the horror then at such a suggestion. That was a lead in. A sure indication it was coming down the pipe. ‘In a humane fashion’ or similar he said.
How humane can ripping a small say one year old child from its mother be? By perfect strangers in military uniforms wearing masks? This is not humane!
This is out and out tyranny.
Any reasonable person would know that this is not sound medical / psychological / humane practice. Aside from it being just plain common sense, the life long fall-out from separation anxiety has been well documented. This is simply not acceptable. This attitude towards our children is absolutely cold and cruel. We have already had one little 7 year old boy try twice to end his life during the last lock down. This whole current scene is terrifying and traumatizing for children and parents and shows total disregard from our authorities on the value of individual lives and the effects their decisions are having. Today I heard also of parents considering a suicide pact with their family because of the fear of possible forced vaccination. (See video at 11mins 28 secs).
One person on social media (where the discussions occur, after all mainstream or should I say lamestream won’t allow it… it’s labeled ‘misinformation’) … she said she had asked at Whanau Ora if children would be separated from their parents. The response was no, that they would not separate families from their children.
And yet this is not reinforced at all by what Ashley Bloomfield is saying in his announcements, or by the experience of the following family who were in quarantine from Australia. They were told on arrival here that they would have to be separated (they declined) then it was suggested again that their two year old who was unwell, be isolated from them. They firmly declined again adding that legal action would be taken if they persisted. This one case has been now sorted but why did it happen like that? Parents less knowing might well have gone with the separation out of fear. The whole operation is being managed by the military. This implies force at the ready. Many (or is that most?) will be intimidated by this.
Below are two video clips, one from the UK (yes news is traveling on this) and one from Ashley Bloomfield, DG of NZ Health, spokesperson in this regard for Jacinda Adern. Note how Bloomfield (see video at 25mins 23 sec) is reluctant to say outright when asked, will you separate children from their parents … after a few ‘ums’ and ‘ahs’ and hand waving (just like Bill Gates does) he admits, ‘yes we will take your children if necessary’. If a paid staff member can care for a child in isolation, then equally that child’s parent can. End of story.
So what is the justification for complete separation?
Jacinda Adern needs to step up immediately and reassure the parents of NZ that their children will NOT be separated from them.
Note: Bloomfield has a Masters in Public Health with first class honours. He also has three children. I wonder would he be agreeable to any of those three at two years old being removed forcibly from he and his wife and children by strangers in camo with masks for who knows how long… for the benefit of their health? The same question goes to Jacinda and her partner.
Please consider emailing your MPs, MOH and Jacinda Adern, and remind them of the trauma such separation of children from their parents/caregivers would bring and such action should not be remotely considered as an option. EWR
Go to 25 mins 23 sec for the questions on quarantine & children with their parents. Question (Reporter):“If you’re a single parent with one kid does your kid come into quarantine with you?” Answer (Bloomfield): “Ah what we’re generally trying to do is encourage where … especially where it’s helpful … ah for, for families, is that … in case any, any close household contacts who might be at risk of still developing an infection or showing infection that they go into quarantine … they’re kept separate in the quarantine facility … ah… so it absolutely reduces the risk of passing it on to other household family members or other household members … so that’s why we see … so some of those ah will just be individual cases there ah … others will be the whole family in there and again the main … one of the key drivers of this is to protect the rest of the whanau members from infection … it’s very common inside the household if there’s not that isolation of the case or cases from other family members”.
Jacinda Adern speaking. Watch at 7 mins 38 secs re quarantine. For the record should the video disappear, she says in response to the question, Will families be forced apart in quarantine? … “We are very careful about the way that we manage that & people’s care arrangements … we work through all of that in a really ah … careful … responsible way… so that’s something we work through with families”.
Listen at 14 secs in Dr Ryan says: “now in most parts of the world due to lock down most of the transmission that’s actually happening in many countries now is happening in the household …. at family level. In some senses transmission has been taken off … off the streets and pushed back into family units. Now we need to go and look in families to find those people who may be sick and remove them and isolate them, in a … in a safe and dignified manner”.

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – Additional conditions which do nto apply to the financial part are unacceptable for Belarus, Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko said when speaking about external lending during a meeting to discuss support measures for the real economic sector on the part of the banking system, BelTA has learned.
Aleksandr Lukashenko asked the participants of the meeting how things were with the provision of foreign credit assistance to Belarus. “What are our partners’ requirements? It was announced that they can provide Belarus with $940 million in so-called rapid financing. How are things here?” the head of state inquired.
At the same time, he stressed that additional conditions which do not apply to the financial part are unacceptable for the country. “We hear the demands, for example, to model our coronavirus response on that of Italy. I do not want to see the Italian situation to repeat in Belarus. We have our own country and our own situation,” the president said.
According to the president, the World Bank has showed interest in Belarus’ coronavirus response practices. “It is ready to fund us ten times more than it offered initially as a token of commendation for our efficient fight against this virus. The World Bank has even asked the Healthcare Ministry to share the experience. Meanwhile, the IMF continues to demand from us quarantine measures, isolation, a curfew. This is nonsense. We will not dance to anyone’s tune,” said the president.

Do familiarize yourself with what contact tracing entails. NZ’s app is mentioned in here. To get the full story go to the official nz covid govt website, you will find it all there. Watch this video as they have looked carefully at it. Basically wherever you go now you may be required to prove you are not infected. You may also find you’ll be phoned up because you were in contact with somebody who is infected … at the local shop, the park, a cafe. And you didn’t even know. Here we are being told to keep track of where we go, innocuously at the moment of course, but it’s easy to see where it is headed. Get the app, make it easy…. Right now they are boasting about NZ’s success with infection, meanwhile the lockdown rules continue pretty much. Wake up folks. EWR

PLEASE NOTE: the video has already been marked by Facebook as being unavailable. I’ve reinstated the link but should you have trouble viewing, try refreshing/reloading your page (this worked for me). Failing that head to this link & watch it there, or go to Billy’s page here (scroll down the page as it is not at the top). Please do let me know if there are still any problems. Billy begins at 1 minute in.
Here is a presentation from New Zealander Billy Te Kahika on NZ’s current situation and the virus. He has served in NZ as a Policeman, a firefighter and a soldier in the NZ Army.. (he further describes his background in the intro). His research & knowledge extend to the topic we’ve covered frequently here, that of the UN’s Agenda 21 now 30. This would be the best presentation on topic from a Kiwi I’ve heard yet. He places today’s happenings with the current virus in the context of Agenda 2030 including the proposed one world government (aka new world order) and all that that entails. Well worth the listen. He is doing a follow up presentation on Sunday so I will post that also on Sunday or Monday. Or if you find him on Facebook I believe his videos are set to public. EWR
“Reports from around the world indicate that as much as 40–50% of the cv mortality has occurred in long term senior care facilities”
Every death even the cruelest death drowns in the total indifference of Nature
Peter Weiss in Marat/Sade.
Except that for death in the time of Covid, indifference is manifested by a system-wide hysteria about the danger to everyone but the elderly in senior care facilities.
While governments literally yell at people to stay at home, going so far as to arrest some intrepid joggers or park walkers they systematically ignore the charnel houses senior care facilities have become. In Spain soldiers entered a care home to find residents, unfed, unwashed, some lying in their own waste, others already dead from neglect.
“Taking exercise is one of the official reasons that people are allowed out of their homes during the lockdown – along with trips to buy food, medical appointments, urgent family reasons and trips to and from work for people whose work is essential and cannot be done from home.”
Outdoor physical activity will be restricted to a radius of 2 kilometres from home during the coronavirus lockdown, the French government said on Thursday, while cycling is completely banned.

Seems the president of the Italian Higher Institute has some smarts. He understands that people who already have other serious health conditions, which have nothing to do with COV, can and do die from those other conditions, regardless of the fact that they’ve tested positive (on useless tests) for COV. He gets it. I predict a great future for him. If he keeps shooting his mouth off, he might find himself working as a weed puller in a forest. Or he might suddenly be diagnosed with the virus and find himself in isolation.
This is a bit like accounts of pre war Germany isnt it … passes required to move about & alone only? Also intriguing that these officials are wearing no protective gear to keep them safe from the deadly virus? My thoughts… always practice the precautionary principle & stay safe … EWR
“If you want to exercise you have to live in the vicinity, and must do so on your own, can’t go out together! Can only have extra person in car if they have no license, or have no car and you’re helping, or they are disabled.”
A reliable source who lives in France has alerted us to what’s going on both there and in most of Europe right now. Not persons to panic they say (normally “glass half full or probably overflowing”) right now they report that their glass is shattered!
“It’s really scary here…the entire country…over 80 million of us are on lock down in our homes. We CANNOT leave our houses without a government issued permission form, and that’s only to get essential food or medical supplies. There are fines for not carrying the form and it’s one form for each person. You need a new form for EVERY time you want to leave your home. It’s basically a signed attestation by you of your purpose for being found outside. You cannot even walk your dog outside your property without it!!!
Everything is closed, there is no panic buying…there is nothing to buy!!!
There are 100,000 police and Gendarmes enforcing this. Some Hotels have been taken over by the army to use as hospitals. Toilet paper is the least of our worries…we have no printer ink to print the form to allow us to leave the house to try to get some from the only store that’s allowed to open, which is the supermarket!! We’re fine and have a good network around us and a full pantry, but many aren’t.
Sorry to be alarmist but you seriously don’t want to see NZ like this!!?
If you want to exercise you have to live in the vicinity, and must do so on your own, can’t go out together! Can only have extra person in car if they have no license, or have no car and you’re helping, or they are disabled.
Also as of today the fines went up for breaking the law, it’s now €135 And €350! (Every 100 euro is about $190NZ).”
Note: Police are recruited on a local basis and are paid by the town they work in (except special police). Gendarmes are a military force and are recruited on a county or national level.

As Joe Imbriano points out in this video, in all the videos circulating about the quarantines and deaths in China … why are the police etc not wearing full hazard gear? Masks, suits etc? Worth a listen … I rather agree with the man, we are being played big time. There is far far more to this than meets the eye…
In my opinion this has always been a no brainer. How are our elderly who have often lived active and happy lives, supposed to ‘rejoice’ when they are suddenly plucked from all things familiar & forced (yes frequently against their will without consultation as to their wishes) to live in a ‘dorm’ of sorts with complete strangers? All activities they enjoyed gone. It is surely a no brainer that they need something to do, not just be expected to sit and stare at the walls? Well this wonderful Doctor had the residents dressing themselves and taking an interest in life. To wake in the morning & wonder if the lettuces you just planted are growing, or if the cats have been and dug them up are all about purpose and a reason to get up. How many folk have I seen after admission to these mausoleums suddenly decline and pass on. Hope is a powerful motivation. Well here we have a working example of the success of providing just that. Based on a hunch, he persuaded his staff to stock the facility with two dogs, four cats, several hens and rabbits, and 100 parakeets, along with hundreds of plants, a vegetable and flower garden, and a day-care site for staffers’ kids.
Dr. Bill Thomas, a Harvard trained physician, wants you to know one very important thing about life and aging: “growing older is a good thing.”
He’s been in the news quite a bit regarding his somewhat radical, yet very positive, first-hand perspective of aging. A Washington Post article featured this one man crusade to change negative attitudes about aging and help people to think of “post-adulthood” as a time of enrichment:
“Thomas believes that Americans have bought so willingly into the idea of aging as something to be feared that it has become a self-fulfilling prophecy leading to isolation, loneliness and lack of autonomy,” the article stated. In 1991, Thomas became the medical director of a nursing home in upstate New York. He found the place, as the Post put it, “depressing, a repository for old people whose minds and bodies seemed dull and dispirited.”
In 1991, Dr. Thomas found himself the medical director of a nursing home in upstate New York and in the words of the Washington Post article, he felt the place a: “depressing, a repository for old people whose minds and bodies seemed dull and dispirited.”
So, what did Thomas do to change the resident’s lives forever and spark a movement in aging? The Washington Post explains: “[Dr. Thomas] decided to transform the nursing home. Based on a hunch, he persuaded his staff to stock the facility with two dogs, four cats, several hens and rabbits, and 100 parakeets, along with hundreds of plants, a vegetable and flower garden, and a day-care site for staffers’ kids.
