Why the FDA and the EPA aren’t set up to protect us from contaminants in the food we eat.
In July 2017, The New York Times ran a story titled The Chemicals in Your Mac and Cheese. Researchers, the article explained, had found plasticizers—known as phthalates—in the popular kids’ food. Fewer than two weeks later, the Timesreported that traces of the herbicide glyphosate, the main ingredient in Roundup, had been found in Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. Several people asked me: Should we be worried? My answer: Yes, we should, but not just because researchers found plasticizers (which are chemicals that make plastics more durable) in our mac and cheese or herbicide in our ice cream. We should be worried because these kinds of environmental chemical contaminants are literally everywhere, in nearly all our foods. We know they exist in these two foods because researchers specifically looked for them. Roughly 9,000 environmental chemicals on the market end up in our foods, including food additives, colorings, flavorings, pesticides, and food-packaging chemicals. Even though they are ever-present in our environment and our bodies, many are never thoroughly tested for safety—and some are never tested at all.
Nitrates and nitrites are in some of the healthiest and unhealthiest foods around. So what’s the deal? Are nitrates bad? Should we avoid nitrates and nitrites whenever possible? Does the source matter? This article summarizes what you need to know to get the good out of these compounds while avoiding the bad.
A new EWG guide brings attention to food additives, commonly found in many processed foods, that can increase the risk of cancer, harm the nervous system, change the body’s hormonal balance and affect the immune system.
We’re publishing the guide because the Food and Drug Administration’s regulatory approach to food additives does not consider the latest science on the health harms caused by additives that may be legally added to processed foods manufactured in the U.S.
Some of the chemicals highlighted in the guide are not allowed for use in food in the European Union, including potassium bromate, a carcinogenic bread additive, and brominated vegetable oil, a flavor stabilizer used in beverages that can harm the nervous system.
(NaturalHealth365) If you love fast food like nearly 37% of the United States population who eat it a day, you may be consuming industrial chemicals. That is exactly what a study published by George Washington University recently found.
The study examined the top fast food chains in the country by purchasing 64 fast food items from establishments in the San Antonio, Texas area, including Chipotle, McDonald’s, Domino’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut.
Upon testing their samples, the researchers found small amounts of harmful chemicals called phthalates in most food samples.
A little satire goes a very long way … calling out all those anomalies & inconsistencies many of us have noticed of late with the corporation parading as government. NZ has just returned to further lockdowns as of today 12th August, as predicted. If you are following the globalists’ covert global government narrative you will know it was inevitable. Hear ‘Bob from NZ’s brilliant commentary on NZ’s last lockdown experience. Note this lockdown that although considered temporary has put paid to campaign gatherings. We are now restricted to gatherings of 100. The NZ Advance party had a gathering of 3K in Auckland recently. EWR
Remember Ribena folks? The product that GlaxoSmithKline made misleading claims about regarding its Vitamin C content … it actually had nil? As I keep repeating, corporations lie. It’s in their nature & character. Corporations are legal persons with psychopathic traits to their personalities. Please watch ‘The Corporation’ doco. Very telling. So, the lesson is, don’t believe a word of what they say. To a corporation, the only thing that really matters is profits. Not you. Check everything for yourself & don’t rely on the media to do that for you. Sure they’ll report the lies of corporations but no more than they have to. Alternative media is doing that for you currently but that won’t last forever as those in charge have already put the writing on the wall that it will all come to an end in due course. What we read will be highly censored by the thought police. While you’re still allowed to think for yourself, do it & research everything. And keep record of what you find. Content is already disappearing from the searches I’ve noticed. EnvirowatchRangitikei
In a shocking reveal, the Pepsi corporation admitted that its Aquafina bottled water is not purified water or spring water, but simply plain old tap water. The company will now be forced to change the labeling of the brand to reflect that it is just tap water.
Many informed customers choose bottled water because they are concerned about the quality of tap water, which is many times riddled with fluoride and pharmaceuticals. Sadly, we are now learning that in many cases, bottled water is actually not any better than tap water.
Over the years, an advocacy group called, “Corporate Accountability International” has been checking the contents of bottled water and pressuring companies to stop their false advertisement.
Dr. Mullenix gives an excellent description to the IAOMT of exactly how the fluoride ion interacts with human physiology to cause numerous adverse health effects. She describes in some detail its effects on various organ systems in clouding the issues her research into neurological impairment especially during pregnancy raised in 1995. Many dental offices apply topical fluoride during pregnancy. This would appear to be very unwise considering the fact that Dr. Mullenix used exactly the same level of blood fluoride in her experiment as a child will experience from this procedure.

“There’s no problem with the ban of DBCP [dibromochloropropane] within the United States. In fact, it was the best thing that could have happened to us. You can’t sell it here anymore but you can still sell it anywhere else. Our big market has always been exports anyway.” (Executive, AMVAC Corporation)
We are living in a world now that is awash with chemicals, found not only in sprays and pesticides, but in our food, water and air. Their use has become largely acceptable now with scant regard often for researching into their possible harmful effects. Any alarms sounded about possible risks are greeted with cries of ‘scaremongering’ or ‘over reaction’ … and yet the independent research is usually there and often ignored. I’m constantly dismayed at this lack of regard for the evidence, especially since our recent generations consider themselves more enlightened than those of our forbears. We have
the knowledge alright, but who will listen and heed it? A video which has encouraged me to keep speaking up about these environmental risks to our health has been that produced by TED talks (they’re on Youtube also) called ‘The Dangers of Willful Blindness’ (the video is on our Home page). Gayla Benefield was just doing her job — until she uncovered an awful secret about her hometown that meant its mortality rate was 80 times higher than anywhere else in the U.S. Worse, when she tried to warn people of her discovery they didn’t want to know! How often we are faced with fact but choose not to believe. We adopt what I call the ‘three monkeys’ approach where it’s assumed, if we neither see, hear nor speak we’re safe … a lot like the ostrich really. But somewhere down the track we run the high risk of it all coming back to bite us on the proverbial rear end!
The Environmental Justice Foundation on pesticide poisoning states that … Across all agricultural sectors, an estimated 1 to 5 million cases of pesticide poisoning occur every year, resulting in 20,000 reported deaths among agricultural workers and at least 1 million requiring hospitalisation….While developing countries account for less than 30% of global pesticide consumption, the bulk of pesticide poisonings occur in a developing world scenario, including an estimated 99% of pesticide-induced deaths…
Check our our Chemicals and Glyphosate pages … particularly note under Chemicals the 1080 page and how NZ is being bombarded with it. We consume the highest amount in the world, gradually ensuring there is a rapidly diminishing wild food supply. Another excellent source of information, a Kiwi site, is the Pesticide Action Network Aotearoa NZ (PANANZ).
“It is a controversial artificial sweetener, 951 (L-aspartyl-L-phenylalanine-methyl-ester). It is cheaper and about 200 times sweeter than sugar.
It comprises two amino acids — aspartic acid and phenylalanine, bound together with methanol. Occurring in natural form, these are bound up, but in aspartame they are not, breaking down readily to formaldehyde (accumulative and known to cause cancer), formic acid (venom in ant stings) and DKP (known brain tumour agent).”
It is found in “More than 6000 products worldwide: sugar-free and diet products, eg NutraSweet & Equal packs & sachets, chewing gum, sweets e.g. Mentos, Extra & Smints, some Eta potato chips, Yoplait Diet-Lite & Weightwatchers yoghurts; Jarrah, Weight-watchers, Nestle & Ovaltine drinks; sports drinks; dietary supplements e.g. Redoxon, silver top Berocca, Healtheries products incl. chewable children’s vitamins; 124 medicines incl. 81 for children e.g. Lemsip, Panadol.”
“According to independent (non-industry funded) doctors and researchers, aspartame can cause a range of symptoms ranging from mild and transitory to debilitating and life-threatening, eg headaches, memory loss, vision loss, depression, seizures, coma and cancer. It can worsen or mimic the symptoms of such diseases and conditions as MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. It interacts with drugs & MSG, and induces carbohydrate cravings (= weight gain). The methanol in aspartame affects the dopamine system of the brain causing addiction. Methanol, or wood alcohol, is classified as a severe metabolic poison and narcotic.”
Aspartame in 81 children’s medicines
“The controversial additive aspartame is contained in 81 medicines which may be used by children and young people. Green MP Sue Kedgley said that the New Zealand Minister of Health has confirmed Medsafe has approved a total of 124 medicines which contain aspartame.
Ms Kedgley stated: “There should be a requirement that the word ‘aspartame’ appear prominently on the label, along with a warning statement that it has been linked to a range of adverse reactions.” Ms Kedgley is also calling on Medsafe to put pressure on pharmaceutical companies to reformulate their products, and in the meantime ensure medicines containing aspartame are clearly labelled with a warning so parents are aware of its presence and potential for side effects.
Aspartame is not always clearly identified on many labels, because in New Zealand medicines and dietary supplements do not have to be labelled with their ingredients. We therefore reproduce a list of the brandnames. Not all the medicines in a particular brand will contain aspartame – look for ‘sugar-free’, also ‘chewable’ and ‘effervescent’. One reason why manufacturers use aspartame in so many products is because it is cheaper than sugar, as well as being addictive. (For a full list of the 81 medicines containing aspartame, see below.) If you are not sure whether a medicine you are giving your child contains aspartame, ask the pharmacist….”
Some of the items on the list:
Anti-inflammatory Lozenges – Menthol and Eucalyptus Flavour Lozenge Amcal
“Many people have their favorite brand but are unaware that many antiperspirants are actually drugs that change the physiology of the body. These antiperspirants contain an active ingredient that is scientifically validated to accelerate brain aging and cause Alzheimer’s disease. This drug is often rubbed into the sweat glands and taken up into the body” … NaturalNews
“Deodorants work by killing the bacteria that live on the skin. They are often scented to provide consumers with a pleasant fragrance. Commercial deodorants often contain hormone-disrupting chemical fragrances that absorb into the skin and disrupt the endocrine system. Natural deodorants use plant-based essential oils as an alternative to the chemicals. Many of these essentials oils give the natural deodorantmore power, because they possess antibacterial properties that help drive away the bacteria in the sweat glands that cause the actual stink.”
Food was something up until the 1940s folk just grew out in the back yard … supermarkets were a new invention. Still, many gardeners kept going well into the 1970s, and growing your own food is currently making a huge come back. I recall as a child, unlike in today’s supermarkets, the shop owners went out back and got all the items on your list and put them in a brown cardboard box or paper bags. We also collected raw milk in a billy from the local Dairy and drank it, and believe it or not one of us died from doing that. Neither did I ever hear one report of food poisoning from raw milk. Today our milk is so heated and treated and added to, much of the nutrients have disappeared, and sadly, some countries have banned raw altogether. Check out the health benefits of raw milk: http://www.raw-milk-facts.com/raw_milk_health_benefits.htmlhttp://www.drdeborahmd.com/health-benefits-raw-milk
I recall as a child, every morning around 5 am awakening to the sound of my father chipping away the weeds in his vegetable garden just outside my window, before breakfast and the working day. He grew everything we ate. And he didn’t spray our vegetables with anything either. He also saved the seed from one plant that he left for that purpose and of course there was an abundance for next season and the neighbours. Nature supplies abundantly although Monsanto would have us believe that GE crops can do better.
(They recently tried suing the Guatemalan people for saving their seed, something they’ve done for hundreds of years). Corporations back in the day had not gotten blatantly greedy enough yet to patent seeds. They have now of course and are busy gobbling up all the companies to tighten their hold on humanity. Then there’s the Food Bill that aims to stop all this sharing and caring by passing our veg over the back fence. What a blasphemy to humanity this is. (A note on the Guatemalan fiasco, this is due to a trade agreement a … think TPPA … the signs are on the wall).
The vaccine industry refuses to conduct scientific tests on the health outcomes of vaccinated children vs. unvaccinated children…”
Enough to get you reading? This topic deserves your attention. Research it well to make informed decisions about your loved ones. For the older ones among us, vaccines have changed somewhat since we were young. I, like most mums of my era, would not think of skipping vaccinations. Information that’s come to light in the last decade however has made me change my mind on that. Looking back on that era, I’ve been told a respected GP in our area at the time (rural NZ) did not vaccinate his children. That was the 1980s. He clearly knew more than we the public knew. It appears Dr Oz declines flu vaccinations for his children. We never hear in the mainstream media of the vaccine injuries … they are there and the industries pay out damages for them every year. An enlightening exercise is to search ‘Gardasil vaccine deaths’ on Youtube.
It can take some effort to find a ‘healthy’ commercially-prepared substitute for cow’s milk. One will go through a number of different milk products before even finding which is best; but know this, there is an alternative to conventional cow’s milk that stands out above the rest.
The causative factors around cancer are really no mystery … we just never hear about them in mainstream media. Read Dr Samuel Epstein’s book called ‘The Politics of Cancer’, quite an old book too. He points out the many environmental causes, and yet our system, the powers that be, call them what you will, act dumb almost and ask us to contribute to the endless sea of research that seems to go nowhere.
This documentary, ‘The Idiot Cycle’ will enlighten you.
This report is from Johanna Congleton, EWG Senior Scientist. EWG if you aren’t aware, is the Environmental Working Group in the US. I’ve featured this essential group on the Food page here and consider it a vital tool in our toolbox for discerning what’s in the products we’re buying and consuming or using on our bodies and in our environments. I’ve referred previously to their info on endocrine disruptors in tortilla chips. But this article expands on their properties and the potential for harm they carry and provides details regarding the products they feature in:
“Proper endocrine signaling is particularly important during critical windows of development—while in the womb and during childhood and adolescence. Chemicals that disrupt hormone signaling can lead to adverse effects on development, reproduction, and the neurological and immune systems”.
I note several Weight Watcher products contain them for instance. Their Carrot Crème Cake, Chocolate Crème Cake, Golden Sponge Cake, Lemon Creme Cake and their Red Velvet Creme Cake. Sara Lee is another product that features there amongst many others, but pertinent to NZ these two I have noticed on our shelves. EWG features a dirty dozen guide to food additives, a handy reference tool for you to search all those little unpronounceable or indiscernible additives most of us just pass over. Be aware peoples, one cake or one biscuit may not harm us in the short term, but habitually consuming these products is setting up, in my opinion, a time bomb in your body. Somewhere down the track you may well be paying with your health. The groups charged with protecting our health (in this case the FDA … they have their equivalent in all of our countries) have listed the use of propyl paraben in food as
“Generally Recognized As Safe… Despite mounting evidence that propyl paraben disrupts the endocrine system, the FDA has failed to take action to eliminate its use in food or reassess its safety” says the EWG.

From Natural Society, an expose on how processed foods operate in our bodies. A good reminder to grow or buy organic and preferably prepare our own meals from fresh. Increasingly our foods from supermarkets are empty of nutrition. Like an automobile, our bodies need fuel to operate … nutritious fuel.
This is from Eleni Roumeliotouat one of my favourite sites … a reminder for vigilant checks of those packaging labels. Those sneaky ingredients that look harmless enough and we pass over … be aware and check the facts.
“Trans fats are known to sabotage heart health since the 90s, yet remain a main ingredient in industrial, processed food. Since nutrition during pregnancy affects the baby´s long-term health and brain development and functions depend on dietary fat intake, we should worry about the impact of trans-fats on the brain of unborn children and the next generation in general…”
Note: don’t forget to check for a next page on GreenMed articles. Often I’ve missed the fact there’s more. Read the article at the GreenMedInfo site HERE
This weekend I’ll be updating on the Rangitikei & the glyphosate spraying issue with Council. Much is developing on the ban glyphosate front world wide (will update on that too) … hopefully it will gain traction here in NZ soon.
From Naturalnews.com, “As much as half of all olive oil brands sold in the U.S. are fake” … another reminder that corporations lie (watch ‘The Corporation’ doco). Another reminder to keep informed and research the facts, especially if you value your health. And a further reminder to buy certified organic … the closer to home the better. Support your local farmers and growers and know what you are eating. Contribute to their livelihood and keep your local communities going.
I’d read of this concern recently too regarding olive oil … that companies are faking the contents. A topic I’ve yet to look at more closely. Very disturbing.
This is disturbing; from the naturalsociety website:
“Pepsi One and Diet Pepsi drinkers lost a battle against the GMO supporting company, Pepsi Co, recently when a federal judge dismissed a class action lawsuit over the carcinogenic additive, 4-methylimidazole (4-MeI) found within the beverages.
Somebody I know locally, as we discussed food and what’s in it these days, handed me an additive list she takes shopping with her so she knows which items to avoid. The list comes from an excellent website I’d not seen before … and one which is closer to home for Kiwis. The site is www.additivealert.com.au
Described there are, of 300 additives in our food, 60 that are particularly questionable, and some pose definite health risks. Some of them are known carcinogens. They advertise a book there called ‘Additive Alert’ by Julie Eady.
“This book is the essential consumers guide to selecting
food that is as risk free as current knowledge will permit. Presenting a well thought out and logical flow of information, it is easy to read and understand. “Additive Alert” makes real healthy food choices simpler for us all. An absolute must for the health conscious.”
Dr Joanne Samer MB.BS, Post Grad Dip Health Science, Perth WA
Like the EWG site, you can search these & identify the side effects of additives. One for instance is number 102, called Tartrazine, and is linked to hyperactivity, skin rashes, migraines, behavioural problems, thyroid problems and chromosome damage. It has been banned in Norway and Austria.
Check out the website and add it to your favourites if you find it useful. In addition, if you find additives in your favourite products, vote with your wallet, obviously, and don’t buy, but also, consider phoning the makers of these products and ask that they desist from using the additive/s. If they won’t, tell them you won’t buy them. Consider, if every consumer did this, things would change fairly quickly: Visit Additive Alert
