The big ‘sustainable’ LIE – NZ Govt quietly grants mining exploration permit inside Māui dolphin sanctuary

Seen anything sustainable happening since Rogernomics? Since the inception of the Agenda 21 plans? All that seems to be happening really is more rape & pillage with the blessing of the respective governments which really aren’t too different (in case you hadn’t noticed) … same bird different wings, offering you the illusion of choice. The Agenda 21 buzz word ‘sustainable’ is a bit of a joke really … three decades on and all we have to show for the outworking of that scheme by the various authorities (namely district & regional councils) is more pollution, more debt, more ‘austerity measures’ (for some… guess who) more poverty, more suicide, more homelessness and little of anything worth celebrating at all. They would like us to swallow the line that they are CONSERVING biodiversity … so they approve mining exploration in a dolphin sanctuary?  They also bomb our native & non native species with a Class 1A Ecotoxin under the same guise. I think folk are waking up to the big sustainable lie now. It’s shot full of holes.  EWR

Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, of Ngati Ruanui, says she was shocked to hear of the permit being granted. The iwi is one of 11 organisations appeal Trans Tasman Resources consent to mine off the South Taranaki Coast

From stuff.co.nz

A mining exploration permit has been quietly granted inside a marine sanctuary off the Taranaki coast to protect the endangered Māui’s dolphins.

The decision, which was approved in May, has shocked conservation groups who were unaware of it.

But the Department of Conservation (DOC) had been aware of Ironsands Offshore Mining Ltd’s application since March. It has voiced “significant concerns” about the safety of the dolphins if the exploration proved successful and mining was to go ahead.

In March DOC warned Conservation Minister Eugenie Sage that it was uncertain whether the public was aware of the application and there would be a “high level of interest” if people were told of the development.

The exploration permit was later granted without seeking resource consent from the Taranaki Regional Council because its coastal plan rules exploration is a permitted activity.

Ironsands also has a permit to explore the seabed of Waihi Beach, in the Bay of Plenty, but this will require recourse consent from the regional council because its coastal plan requires it.

A Taranaki iwi already fighting mining plans off the coast of Pātea in South Taranaki said the approval raised alarm bells.

In an emailed statement, Te Runanga o Ngati Ruanui Trust kaiarataki Debbie Ngarewa-Packer said granting the five year exploration permit in the sanctuary, which runs from Oakura to Maunganui Bluff in Northland, set a dangerous precedent.

“Taranaki has been instructed by this coalition government to transition our economy away from fossil-fuelled industry. To do that we must have certainty that our unique appeal, including natural resources, will be protected,” she said.

In April, Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern announced the end of offshore oil and gas exploration, about one month before Ironsands Offshore Mining’s exploration permit was granted.

The permit covers an area almost four times the size of that granted by the Environmental Protection Authority to Trans Tasman Resources (TTR) for mining of the coast Pātea.

The EPA’s decision was appealed by 11 parties and an appeal hearing was held in the High Court at Wellington in April. Justice Peter Churchman has yet to reveal his decision.

Emergency responders in Manchester criminally prevented from doing their job – an interview with Dr Jacob Cohen author of Murder at Pike River Mine reveals same in NZ

Thanks to Rose at thecontrail.com for this link added to our article from 2016 (also cited at the video) called Murder at Pike River Mine. You can download Dr Jacob Cohen’s ebook at the link (a MUST READ), and hear him in this video being interviewed about the prevention by the ‘authorities’ of firemen from doing their job. Hear him speaking on the Pike River Mine disaster.

EMERGENCY RESPONDERS CRIMINALLY PREVENTED FROM DOING THEIR JOBS, SO PEOPLE DIE UNNECESSARILY. Manchester attack: Firefighters did not respond to bombing for two hours because of false alarm over ‘active shooter’. Dr Jacob Cohen discusses the Pike River Mine explosion in New Zealand in 2010 where 29 men died –  insurance job.  Jacob’s book: Murder at Pike River Mine, 2nd edition Jacob Cohen, Tony Gosling, Martin Summers www.thisweek.org.uk – 30 March 2018

COMMENT

Some time back I was contacted by a member of the public, a former detective, who has joined some dots on this front with regard to the heavy 1080 drops in areas that are he proposes, reserved for mining (I will expand on that in a further post):

“…our Fire service are now managed by the UN – I spoke with firemen in 2015 and all their employment contracts were changed so they answered directly to the UN.
You will now see stand down orders as good firemen will be told to let areas BURN – again in mining areas…….Coromandel Hippies – Wilderland were recently burnt out ….and same in ChCh hills – both instances good firemen told to stand down…”
Listen to the video interview with Dr Jacob Cohen … do read his book, it exposes vast corruption.

Rare & deadly cancers found downstream from Canada’s oil sands – the ongoing rape & pillage of the environment by corporations at the hosts’ expense

Yet another example of how corporations ruin environments and community health by their ongoing rape & pillage pretty much with impunity. Another David & Goliath scenario. What of the lives of these people affected? Shameful. The plunder has to stop.

Study links oilsands pollution to higher cancer rates

“Cancer occurrence increased significantly with participant employment in the oilsands and with the increased consumption of traditional foods and locally caught fish,” said the report.

It also found total levels of carcinogens in the traditionally hunted foods were higher compared with similar studies around the world…”  thestar.com

EDMONTON—A new study by two Alberta First Nations and University of Manitoba scientists says there is a link between oilsands pollutants and higher levels of heavy metals in wildlife, and higher cancer rates in residents.

“There’s something unique that is happening in Fort Chipewyan,” Stéphane McLachlan, the lead researcher from the university, told a news conference Monday. “It’s a situation that is alarming and demands attention.”

The report — titled Environmental and Human Health Implications of Athabasca Oil Sands — is the result of three years of research. It was funded by the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation and the Mikisew Cree First Nation.

The study says it found 23 cases of cancer in 94 participants.

“Cancer occurrence increased significantly with participant employment in the oilsands and with the increased consumption of traditional foods and locally caught fish,” said the report.

It also found total levels of carcinogens in the traditionally hunted foods were higher compared with similar studies around the world.

But it found the dietary intake was low because community members were turning away from the traditional foods in favour of store-bought sustenance.

The methodology combined scientific methods with anecdotal information from community members.

10 REASONS CANADA NEEDS TO RETHINK THE TAR SANDS

Kevin Grandia, DeSmogBlog
Waking Times

As a Canadian it blows my mind that we can have the second largest deposits of oil in the world, but our government remains billions in debt and one in seven Canadian children live in poverty.

I feel like we are being played for fools here in Canada, because foreign owned oil companies like ExxonMobil,

British Petroluem and PetroChina (71% of oil sands production is owned by foreign shareholders) are making billions exporting raw tar sand from our country, while us citizens are dealing with all the nasty downsides.

Time for a tar sands reality check.

Here’s the top 10 reasons Canada needs to rethink their unrelenting desire to expand tar sands operations:

1. The Canada tar sands isn’t just an environmental issue, it is also a social justice, human rigths and health issue. A higher incidence of rare and deadly cancers has been documented in First Nations communities downstream of the oil sands by doctors, the Alberta Health Department and First Nations since 2007.

2. Like birds? Me too. Did you know that over 30 million birds will be lost over the next 20 years due to tar sands development?

3. 95% of the water used in tar sands surface mining is so polluted it has to be stored in toxic sludge pits. That’s 206,000 litres of toxic waste discharged every day.

4. Canada’s tar sands make Hoover Dam look like lego blocks, because we are home to 2 of the top 3 largest dams in the world. The dams are used to hold back all that toxic sludge produced by mining tar sands.

Murder at Pike River Mine – the Truth You Won’t Find in Mainstream Media

What a heart breaking story this is. The angst of the families, their loved ones so near yet so very far. Now they plan to seal the mine off. When this story was initially over and we knew there was no hope they would ever emerge from the mine alive, and when reporters began to dig below the surface, so the shocking facts began to emerge. The miners’ working environment had been unsafe for some time. For a thorough exposé of the truth of this whole affair, download and read ‘Murder at Pike River Mine’ by Dr Jacob Cohen. You will not of course find this information in mainstream news. Are you joining any dots?

“The incestuous collusion between corrupt fascist, international corporations, banks, global mining companies and compliant politicians – and how the inexorable love of money by those who run them supersedes everything else”

“What was the real truth behind the Pike River coal mine disaster in NZ killing 29 men? Was the tragedy simply an ‘accident’ or was it premeditated murder? Involving people at the highest level of the NZ Government and international business and banking community? Does this case have implications for the world?”

Pike River mine survivor: ‘there are people in that mine that survived, just like I did’

Nov 14, 2016

“I think they’ve just tried to ease us into it by delaying it and pushing it back and back year after year. They’re just kicking us in the guts once more.”

There is no doubt in Daniel Rockhouse’s mind that he and Russell Smith were not the only two who survived the first Pike River mine explosion.

Rockhouse made his way out of the mine after a methane blast on November 19, 2010, dragging Smith with him.

The friends were the only two men who came out alive after the explosion ripped through the West Coast coal mine, leaving 29 trapped inside – where they remain today.

He calls Solid Energy’s plans to permanently plug the mine with concrete “disgusting”.

Rockhouse said the fight for answers had been traumatising, stressful and emotional – to the point where he had stepped away. But his mother continued to battle.

Court declines Pike River families’ review bid

The prosecution was dropped after an insurance payment of more than $3 million was made to the families of the men who died.

Two women who lost family members in the disaster had asked the court to review the decision by Worksafe New Zealand not to offer any evidence on the charges.

Anna Osborne, whose husband was killed in the mine blast, and Sonya Rockhouse, whose son died, were assisted in their legal bid by the Council of Trade Unions (CTU).
