Aerotoxic – An Inconvenient Truth of Flying

A seven decade old cause of mysterious public ill health will eventually be solved with solutions which exist – today

Anybody lighting up a cigarette in an airliner these days would be rightly judged by society to be on the wrong side of the law – as it has finally been proven beyond reasonable doubt that exposure to toxic chemicals from tobacco smoke is dangerous.

Yet being exposed to nerve agents contained in jet engine oil in a confined space, according to the aerospace industry, somehow doesn’t cause chronic ill health effects in humans, when repeatedly exposed?

How can nerve agents even get into an airliner cabin? In around 1962 the entire airline industry stopped using pressurised ‘Outside air’ and went over to using ‘Bleed air’ which is piping the pressurised air from the jet engines, unfiltered, into the cabin. But worse still, there are no monitors to detect the deadly contaminants, only human noses.

Back in the 1950’s, the tobacco companies realised the dangers of tobacco smoke and wisely put filters in virtually all cigarettes. Yet the airline industry is effectively back in the 1950’s, as it is only now, that carriers such as Spirit Airlines and Easyjet are planning to place both filters and nerve agent detectors in their modern jet fleets, such as PALL Aerospace’s “PUREcabin solution” featured below.

  1. WHAT IS MORE TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION, IS FLYING WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE SERIOUS ILLNESSES AND DISEASES THAT ARE CONTAGIOUS. AS FAR AS ENERGY, I AM A PERSON THAT FIRMLY BELIEVES NOT TO PUT ALL OF YOUR EGGS IN ONE BASKET, WE SHOULD EXPLORE ALTERNATIVES, AND WE FIND SOME THAT WORK, THEN PUT THOSE PRODUCTS TO WORK. I THINK A HYPERLOOP FOR OVERSEAS TRAVEL, MAY BE MORE BENEFICIAL THAN FLYING AT SOME POINT, AND THAT IS IF WE DO NOT BLOW EACH OTHER UP BEFORE THEN. THE HYPERLOOP WILL GET PEOPLE WHERE THEY WANT TO GO IN FAR LESS TIME, TO TRAVEL IN SMALL CROWDED PLACES, GIVE A PERSON MORE TIME FOR THE PURPOSE OF THEIR DESTINATION, BETTER HEALTH FROM JET LAG, AND POSSIBLY COULD CONTAIN FILTERS FROM POLLUTANTS. THERE WOULD BE LESS USAGE FOR RESTROOMS/BATHROOMS. PEOPLE COULD POSSIBLY CARRY THEIR OWN SNACKS THAT THEY KNOW ARE HEALTHY FOR THEM. THEY WOULD ARRIVE MORE SOBER JUST POSSIBLY HAVE ONE OR TWO ADULT DRINKS, THAN THREE OR FOUR ON A LONG TRIP. AS FOR ME, I LOVE TRAINS, I JUST HAVE A PASSION FOR TRAINS. YOU CAN SEE THE LANDSCAPE AND GEOGRAPHY OF PLACES, GET AND EDUCATIONS FROM DIFFERENT LOCATIONS ON THE LIFE OF PEOPLE, IF YOU TRAVEL AT NIGHT THE STARS CAN LOOK VERY AMAZING AND ROMANTIC, AND YOU CAN BE NOT ONLY EDUCATED, BUT BE ENTERTAINED AT THE SAME TIME, WHEN LOOKING AT DIFFERENT LANDSCAPES AS YOU TRAVEL. IF YOU HAVE TIME, AND ARE NOT IN A BUSINESS RUSH, TRAINS CAN OFFER MUCH, NOT TO MENTION THAT WHEN YOU SLEEP, YOU SLEEP IN MANY DIFFERENT LOCATIONS AS YOU TRAVEL. TRAINS CAN BE AN INTERESTING EXPERIENCE FOR YOUNG AND OLD.
