Driving while black

Racism, see how the simple driving experience pans out for some folks. Happens here in NZ also case you think we’re exempt.

  1. One of the unfortunate realities in LA is while blacks represent 13% of the population they are responsible for 57% of homicides, at least that was the case about 5 years ago when the city decided it wasn’t politically correct to publish such figures any longer. It’s a reasonable assumption that they are over-represented in other crime stats. Crimes rates by Hispanics (Mexicans) were about in proportion to the number (nearly half) while Asians and Whites were much less. What is a cause and what is a consequence?

    1. IN THE STATE OF GEORGIA, WHERE I LIVE, BLACKS GET ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THEY WANT. NOW ON AFFIRMATIVE ACTION: WHITE BUSINESS ARE REQUIRED TO HIRE A QUOTA OF BLACKS AND OTHER SO CALLED MINORITIES, BUT A BLACK BUSINESS DOES NOT HAVE TO FULFILL THIS REQUIREMENT. AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED AND I SHALL FOREVER MORE STAND MY GROUND, THERE ARE NO MINORITIES IN THE USA, THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO ARE TRULY HAVING PROBLEMS OF ANY GREAT SIGNIFICANCE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO ARE HANDICAPPED AND THE DISABLED. FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN AND EXPERIENCE, I AM A REALIST AND SHALL STAY THAT WAY.

      1. “BLACKS GET ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING THEY WANT.” We have that sentiment here too futuret. Called privilege. Was it not that long ago blacks had to ride at the back of the bus, and were required to stand for a white person in your country? They’d still be doing that I expect if it weren’t for folk like Rosa Parks risking her life & standing up against injustice. Black histories are littered with injustices that we never really heard about because look who wrote the histories. Lying by omission.

    2. Aside from all you mention which are well worn points that most raise when discussing racism … the fact is, when a brown or a black person is behind the wheel there is a whole different set of circumstances unfolds that no white person will ever encounter. I’ve seen it with my family here in NZ & it makes my blood boil. This is a whole discussion that I generally prefer not to go down quite frankly because it is one that white people RARELY see. At any rate, paring it down (& I could say much more) a black brown or any non white person should never have to endure being pulled over because their colour has been noted, asked questions on many minor technicalities with snidy remarks about their ‘funny’ name they can’t pronounce as has happened to my relatives here in NZ a country that once boasted the best race relations in the world. And going further back to the 60s’, picked up off the street for no reason and taken to the cells for hidings with rubber hoses. All of this stuff is NEVER seen by whites because they are white. And the social stats on crime, failure, dole queues etc etc owe their existence in my opinion to long term post colonial stress disorder. What we see today is the reaping of what was sown back then. What else could we expect?
